The Holy Bible, the written word of God, the holy scriptures. In years past the Bible was the most treasured possession that a person could own. They memorized it, lived by it and were even willing to die for it. The Bible is the one sure thing that we can hold in our hand that is directly given to us by God Almighty. It is our sole authority in all matters of faith and practice because it is inspired and holds the authority of God himself.

1Th 2:13 (KJV) For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

Inspiration

The Bible is the inspired word of God, it is not the written works of man. If it were written by man then it would be subject to human error and could not be fully trusted. However, because it is inspired we can trust our eternal souls with its truths and be sure of our salvation.

2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Purity in Truth

God assures us that his word is true and that it is pure. If the Bible were not true then how could we trust it? If we can not trust it how can we know anything about God? The Bible is our one true, trusted source of God's revelation to man; without it we could know nothing about our heavenly Father or the salvation provided to us by his son Jesus. Remember if our Bible is pure and true then by definition it can not have errors in it.

Psa 12:6 (KJV) The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Psa 119:140 (KJV) Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

Psa 119:160 (KJV) Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

Joh 17:17 (KJV) Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Preservation

The common question asked is what good is inspiration without preservation? That is a very good question indeed. Most Christians universally believe that God gave man the holy scriptures and when he did they were perfect and without error. However there is much debate today on whether or not they have been preserved and to what extent. If the Bible has not been preserved then once again it can not be trusted; and I don't know about you but the only person I would trust in keeping God's Holy Word preserved in a suitable manner would be God himself. Thankfully God promised to due just that.

Psa 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Psa 12:7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

Isa 59:21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.

Isa 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

1Pe 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Exalted

In the Bible we are told that the name of Jesus is exalted above every other name, and his name is the only name under heaven by which men must be saved. (Php 2:9, Acts 4:12).

But there is one thing that God has revealed to us that he holds in even higher regard than his name; that is his word.

Psa 138:2 (KJV) I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

If God himself exalts and magnifies his word to such a high degree; then we should be asking ourselves, shouldn't we?

Psa 119:162 (KJV) I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.
