What makes a great metal song? Is it the heavy guitar riffs or pounding drums? Maybe the savage vocals or the guitar solos? Some might say it's the beautifully dark or violent lyrics. But in reality metal fans have wildly different opinions on what makes a great metal song and will argue to the death defending their favorite style. What cannot be disputed is that so many of our favorite metal bands have taken inspiration of religion and the bible itself.

God is the king of metal: Here's the proof
When thinking of great metal lyrics, War Pigs from Black Sabbath might spring to most of our minds with lines like: "Evil minds that plot destruction, sorcerers of death’s construction." But lyrics like these are nothing compared to the God-inspired words of the Bible.
The first example of this is the gospel of Christ himself; living a perfect life, being beaten, tortured and crucified on a cross, shedding his blood for us and defeating death itself. Pretty freakin' metal.
1 John 1:7 (KJV) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Revelation 1:5 (KJV) says: And from Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness, [and] the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood
Even in books like Psalms that are filled with hope and love and read like pure poetry there are true metal moments. In Psalms 18:40-42 David tells us about what happened to those that rose up against him.
Psalms 18:40-42 (KJV) 40Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me. 41They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not. 42Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.
The Bible ends with the book of Revelation, which is filled with kings and thrones, dragons and harlots, the four horsemen, the moon and sea turning to blood, mountains on fire, the sky darkened by some from a bottomless pit. And SO much more.
I rest my case.
