Obedient Rebel

Obedient rebel. Yeah, that's me. Sounds like an oxymoron though doesn't it? But just hear me out on this.
I am the first one to raise my hand and admit that I was the epitome of a rebellious teen (but that's a story for an entirely different post). Bucking every area of authority I ran up against. In my mind I ruled the world! Looking back now I was hilariously foolish. Thank goodness for God's grace!
Nowadays I am a totally different type of rebel.
1 Peter 1:14 says, As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance.
As a child of God I now rebel against & distance myself from the the societal pressures of this world. I don't need magazines, that are plastered heavily with filtered women on the covers, to show me how I should look or what I should be wearing this season (non trend setter status here). I steer clear from television and movies that influence how I should think and feel. I remove myself from situtions, social media platforms, and groups that try to control the way I learn, worship, and share information. I have ZERO clue what's going on in Hollyweird. Who's dating who and such. Let's just say I'm not the most sought-after conversationalist concerning current trends and pop culture. And I'm ok with that. My focus is just elsewhere.
As followers of Christ we are as Romans 12:2 says, be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

So in my rebellion I am actually being an obedient daughter of the King. As you mature in your relationship with Christ your worldy interests become less of a focus. Through my daily actions I try to shine His light in a world of spiritual darkness. Sharing God's love, grace, salvation, and discipline is something I do on a daily basis Why wouldn't I scream from the mountain tops (ok so there are no mountain tops in Ohio but you get the gist) the greatest LOVE STORY that has ever happened? But this doesn't doesn't come cheap or easy. Friends lost. Family distanced. God will make you uncomfortable. Stretch your limits. Commitment of 100% (no wishy washy faith accepted). Will it be worth it? YOU BET!!
Colossians 1:10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasingHim,being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.
Just as you try to please your earthly parents it is of most joy when you please your Heavenly Father. He loves us with a love that is incomprehensible to our earthly emotions. Heaven rejoices with us when we leave the wordly lusts behind and follow the will of GOD.
1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
I might not be the cool kid here on Earth but I know I'm a beloved servant of my eternal home!
I am a rebel for Christ.
